I captured these images of Dublin's bright colored doors during my trip to Ireland.
"Quarantined"
This is a surrealism piece, which is a style of art stressing the subconscious or non rational significance of imagery arrived at by automatism or the exploitation of chance effects, unexpected juxtapositions, etc. My piece was inspired by surrealism artist Jerry Uelslmann who is known for using layers and seamlessly grafting composite images in black and white. They are a bit mysterious and creepy and I had a lot of fun coming up with this story. I used tools like layer mask and the eraser tool to help me achieve a similar look to those of Jerry Uelsmann. I placed myself in the piece, as was part of the assignment, and layered the hands, clouds, and window into the final picture.
During my freshman year of high school I took a introduction to photography class. We learned how to capture the perfect moment, as well as different settings on our cameras and how to use photoshop to edit. This project was one of my favorites and we achieved this ghostly effect by layering two photos on top of each other. For example, the city background and the car were two separate photos. The hardest part was carefully erasing the parts that I didn't need from the car layer and then changing the opacity to make it transparent. I then came up with my creative title, "Ghost Town".
"Martha's Vineyard Light House"
This is a digital abstraction piece which is shape, form, color, and line coming together to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. In order to achieve this piece I used the polygonal lasso tool to get straight edges and clean lines. I also used color to match the original picture to the abstracted one. This took a lot of time because I did not use the filter, I did it all by hand. I really enjoyed this assignment and will continue to create pieces like this one.
