During the 2020 pre-college summer program at the New York School of Interior Design, we were taught how to fill and design a commercial space. I designed a hotel lobby, restaurant and bar, along with a name for the hotel and a logo. The picture gallery to the right was my ideation board which I presented to the class, showcasing the style and distinction of my vision.
I called my project The Townsend Hotel, based in London. I named the hotel after the first street my family lived on in London. I created the logo using the T and H from the name. I really wanted it to be simplistic and modern.
This floor plan includes my entrance, lobby, restaurant and bar. I tried to make the space feel not super open and cold, but rather cozy. I'm glad I was able to achieve a room for each space without making it feel small and cramped.
This is the hotel entrance. I enjoyed mixing different textures such as porcelain floor tiles, wood ceiling beams and wall paneling. For the paneling, I filled the center of each square with glass to keep the space cozy, but open. I also kept the paneling, molding, and ceiling a smokey grey, contrasting them with the accent wall across from the doors, which is covered with a light, elegant wallpap
The Carlton Hill restaurant and bar are located across from the lobby. The name Carlton Hill came from the second street I lived on while living in London. The first thing guests see is an accent wall with cream-colored wallpaper and the name of the restaurant lit up. Two gold pendent lights hang above the hostess desk. I took inspiration from the photo on the bottom and designed a custom chair, c
Just beyond the restaurant is the Carlton Hill bar, a cozy alcove on the first floor. The photo next to the floor plan was my inspiration. I loved the molding and how the bar is sectioned off from the restaurant. I designed the bar chairs in a darker leather than the restaurant chairs, and the legs are made from dark oak. the single pendent lights hang around the circlular shape of the bar.
